FIVE ELEMENTS CARDS

FIVE ELEMENTS CARDS

The FIVE ELEMENT CONTEMPLATIVE CARDS are an invitation to pause, observe and contemplate
our relationship to the natural world around us.

Each of the fifty cards brings together an original photograph, a carefully chosen quotation
and a contemplation inspired by one of the five elements:
Air, Earth, Ether, Fire and Water.

Created as an extension of my interdisciplinary practice,
the cards offer a quiet space for reflection, intuitive exploration and connection
– to nature, to place and to oneself.

They may be used individually as a daily practice or explored as a complete deck.

The Five Element Contemplative Cards are a unique deck of fifty cards combining photography, quotes and contemplations.

Each of the fifty cards features an original, digitally mirrored photograph of the natural world, a quote selected to pair with the element and number of the card, and a brief corresponding meditation inspired one of the elements: Air, Earth, Ether, Fire and Water. Akin to ink blot Rorscharch tests, the visually evocative cards were designed to invite reflection and a deeper awareness of our relationship with nature. They can be used individually or explored as a complete deck.

Created by Canadian interdisciplinary artist Siobhán Humston, the cards grew from photographs made during her international artist residencies, where sustained encounters with diverse landscapes and places have become an integral part of her artistic practice. They are an extension of her ongoing exploration of the relationship between art and nature, entanglement, materiality, ontology and the poetics of place; our fundamental kinship to the more-than-human world. In this way, the deck brings the contemplative and poetic dimensions of her wider sculpture, installation, drawing, painting and photographic practice in an intimate, accessible form.

Beautifully produced in Canada and packaged in a 100% recycled clear plastic box, this deck offers an accessible way for people to take a piece of contemplative art home with them. They make a thoughtful gift for anyone drawn to nature, art, mindfulness, spirituality or personal reflection, and is particularly well suited to galleries, museums as well as botanical, nature and wellness shops.
